Owning a
home-based business can give you the best of both worlds. Like any
owner of a small business, you enjoy both the satisfaction of
being your own boss and also of being the person in
charge.
When you
run your business out of home office, you also get to enjoy the
benefits of having flexible hours, no commute, and also specific
tax advantages. You can run a successful home business and have
the flexibility to be available for your family by arranging your
work schedule around your family's needs.
It is no
wonder so many people are attracted to starting a home-based
business. But is a home-based business the right decision for
you?
Starting
any type of business requires planning, soul-searching and making
a committed decision. There are certain aspects of your businesses
operations that you want to consider before you start a home-based
business.
Here are
some important factors on how I found success. I am simply sharing
with you my experience and the 5 key things that I was looking
for…..and that made the difference in my
success.
In your
search for a home business you want to look for 5 things:
1.
Ease and
simplicity of getting the business off the ground.
2.
The ability of the business
to generate a significant income.
3.
A product or service that
has a need in the market place and that you could stand
behind.
4.
Low
capital investment.
5.
A home
business with a proven track record of results, not a start-up
unknown venture.
It can
take some work to find a home business that fit all the criteria.
You can easily find home businesses that have the first 3, or even
4, out of the 5 criteria, but It can took some searching to find a
home businesses that has all 5 of the criteria. Do your due
diligence.
Ease and
simplicity of getting the business off the ground:
Make sure
you get a marketing system that ANYONE can duplicate. There are a
lot of great companies with great products out there, but if you
don't have a reliable way to market them, you're not going to make
any real money. You want a system to follow. The system should
also replace most of the redundant and boring things that cause
most people to fail. Marketing systems that actually are proven to
work are difficult to find. This is usually the weak link... Look
closely.
The
ability of the business to generate a significant
income:
When I
say a significant income, I mean AT LEAST a 6 figure income. There
are many home busniesses that can actually generate a multiple 6
figure income. I would recommend finding a direct sales company to
work with. Direct sales is one of the top 3 industries in the
world that produces millionaires. There is also the MLM
industry which can produce extraordinary results for some people,
however I have personally never achieved a significant income with
the MLM type of business models. The attrition is often large and
the commissions usually too small to have extraordinary
results.
A product
or service that has a need in the market place and that you could
stand behind:
Look for
growing markets, don't chase trendy fads. Make sure that the
products being sold are legitimate stand alone products, products
that would sell themselves if on a shelf in a store etc. If what
you are marketing is NOT a stand-alone product, you will have a
hard time building a stable business. You do not want to be a
“pushy salesperson” and a product that has value in the
marketplace and a product that you personally believe in is
critical to your success. Find a company with products and a
system in place so that you don’t really have to do any selling or
explaining at all. A good company will have in place a process for
customers to become informed. This saves you an immense amount of
time and eliminates the need for you to be a “salesperson”.
Low
capital investment:
One of
the appealing things about having a Home Based Business, over a
traditional brick and motor or franchise type business, is that
you can get started for a fraction of the cost. However, make no
mistake, if you are serious about building a real and profitable
business, it is going to take some capital expenditure to get it
going. I speak to many people who are looking for a “free”
business. What they are looking for (but just don’t realize) is a
J-O-B. Many “free” business will require you to make some
investment at some time. There is no free lunch, otherwise you are
just making profit for somebody else. Any real business is going
to take some money to get it going. But where a franchise usually
takes a minimum of $250,000.00 to get started (many cost
millions), I got my home business started for around $2,500.00.
Not a bad investment for a 6 figure income. There are also many
ways to finance your business without taking money out of you own
pocket…I will save that discussion for another
day.
A home
business with a proven track record of results, not a start-up
unknown venture:
This is a
show-stopper for many people. There are so many over-hyped home
business opportunities on the internet that most people are
rightfully skeptical. However don’t let skepticism stop you form
making one of the best decisions of your life. There are also many
good, legitimate home business opportunities out there. While
getting in on the ground floor of a brand new start-up business
can be exciting and rewarding, I preferred to go with a business
that had been around for several years, had a history of success
and had clearly been operating with
integrity.
These are
the things that I found to be of critical importance in my search
for the right business. You may have additional criteria that you
are looking for as well.
Find
something that you can be passionate about and make a committed
decision to make a change in your life. Working from home can be
extremely rewarding. The flexibility and time freedom of working
out of a home office is fantastic. If you choose the right home
business, you can also make some serious money and have the time
to enjoy it! There is no better feeling than being your own boss
and controlling your own destiny!
To your
success,
