Setting Goals
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

How to set goals

It always amazes me that many people have never set an important goal in their life. The sad fact is that of many people who do set goals, many don't know how to so effectively. Predictably after a few failures, they give up on their dreams.  An effective way to set goals is to follow the SMART goal setting guidelines. What the SMART goal setting guidelines actually means is that your goals should be

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Rewarding
  • Timely

If you ignore any one of these guidelines the odds that you achieve your goals drops significantly...

The key factor that either moves you towards your goals or holds you back is your subconscious mind. These goal setting guidelines are the essential criteria for your subconscious mind to accept your goals and to begin working for you. Otherwise your subconscious will work hard to keep you in your comfort zone and in your present situation following your old habits.

Specific

When a goal is specific, you clearly know and see what it is you want to achieve. You have specific values for that achievement. In making your goals specific it is critically important that you write them down!

The more specific you make your goal, the more likelihood of your success and the shorter time it will take for you to attain it.

When your goals are specific, you program your subconscious mind to work for you. With clear, defined goals, your feelings and thoughts will lead you to your intended destination instead of pointing at the obstacles and being scattered.

Measurable

You want a way to measure your progress towards your goal. You want there to be a measurable and specific criteria that will tell you when you can stop and that your goal is achieved. Feeling the progress towards your goal is also very important for you to stay motivated and to enjoy the process of achieving your goal.

Attainable

Keeping a goal attainable means you see a realistic path to your goals achievement. This does not mean to aim low in your goal setting. There must be a challenge in your goals. As you get better at setting your goals, you will eventually set goals that scare and excite you at the same time.  All goals should as ambitious as possible, but still reachable. When you stretch yourself, you have more sense of achievement to keep you motivated.

Rewarding

You must always have a clear reason why you want to reach your goal. So make sure that the goal is yours, not the goal of somebody else that you are trying to please. Be clear of your specific reasons and the way the achievement of your goal will make you feel. Having pictures of what your achieved goal looks like is ideal.

Imagine the feelings you will have when your goal is finally reached. This will ensure that the goal is really worth achieving to you. Then, every time you come to an obstacle and your motivation is challenged, look at your pictures. This is a very powerful and practical technique for getting through difficult moments and not quitting.

Timely

The final requirement of SMART goal setting is that your goal should have a specific time frame. This is also very important for your subconscious mind. Work towards your goals until the final minute. Many people are surprised how things fall into place at the very end of their stated time frame, even when everything seemed hopeless. If you happen to not reach your goal, look at everything that you did accomplish in your pursuit and be grateful for those things!…and then, hit the reset button and re-define your goal again!

"Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal."  ~Henry Ford

Finding Success
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Everybody wants success...

Some people spend their entire life pursuing it, to the detriment of all else. For some people, attaining success seems impossible. They often decide that success and prosperity must be destined for only a select few and the rest of us just have to be "content with what as we have" because "having it all" is for other people, not for us.

Fortunately, those assumptions couldn't be further from the truth. Unfortunately, when you strive for success with the wrong assumptions, you will never find success.

It's like trying to get to an unfamiliar city by using the wrong road map.

Zig Ziglar says that, "Success is a process, not an event," "a journey, not a destination."

Jim Rohn describes it as "…a condition that must be attracted not pursued."

Success is something you must find within yourself. It does have a price, sometimes it is a very high one. And most people aren't really and truly ready to pay that price, to do what success demands. The hardest work of all is changing your beliefs and your perceptions that are inside your own head. Once you have changed your way of thinking, taking action is often the easy part.

If success has eluded you so far, I would suggest that you change the way that you think, change your perceptions, and change the way you come to making decisions.

A good way to start changing your thoughts, which will change your subsequent actions, is to find those people who have what you want. Write down the habits that have made them successful and be determined to copy them. This is the "Be, Do, Have" principle in action. If you can work with someone directly that is ideal, but there are an endless amount of biographies of successful people that you can read and emulate.

Once you learn to do what it takes, success will come looking for you. You just can't be denied! You will be surprised at how easy it is and will wonder where it has been all your life. It will be a complete change from the days when you chased after it! Opportunities open up to you, and when they do, they find you ready to grab on to them.

Learning from others or having a mentor who has arrived where you want to go can cut out the heart-aches of trial and error. By having a mentor, or an example to follow you can keep focused and on track. There is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Leaders vs. Followers
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Generally speaking, there are two types of people in the world. There are those that lead and there are those that follow. Determine quickly whether you intend to be a leader or remain a follower. The difference in income is huge.

The follower simply cannot expect the compensation to which a leader is entitled to...although many followers do make the mistake of thinking that they deserve such pay.

There is no dishonor in being a follower. On the other hand, remaining a follower isn't a credit, either. Most great leaders began in the role of a follower. They become great leaders because they were smart followers.

Almost without exception, the person who cannot follow a leader cannot become an effective leader.  Usually the person who will follow a leader most efficiently is the person who develops their leadership abilities the quickest.

So, ask yourself, which group are you in? Then decide which  group are you committed to staying in?

"The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet."

~ Theodore M. Hesburgh

Living a Lifestyle
Category: Jobs, Work, Careers

Maybe I should have titled the profile the "Lifestyle Theory"? To me, wealth is much more than just the money. Money is essential to wealth, but it is not all there is to wealth. True wealth comes from the inside first before it is manifested in your outer world. I think more and more people are coming to understand that.

Self development has exploded in the mainstream media lately. People are waking up to the fact that you can change your life when (and only when) you change the way you think.  People are eager to learn what it takes to get the results that they know they deserve. Having wealth in your life means that you are balanced in all areas of your life….Mentally, physically, spiritually and yes, financially. People want more time with their family, more time to focus on their priorities, more time to simply enjoy life…that is what "lifestyle" is really about and that is what true wealth is all about.

I have spent the last 2 years in the business of self development. It is an experiance that has completely changed my life and my lifestyle. It has also been great to share my experience with others. Watching others achieve the results that they have a burning desire for is the best feeling in the world. Not that I am responsible for their results, because I certainly am not. Only you can change your own life, but sometimes people need to be  pointed in a direction, just as as I was 2 years ago.

Are you looking for a change? Would you like to be in the business of offering life changing self development products to others? With the explosion in the mainstream media of self development the past few months, people are eager and ready for change in their life. Would you like to be involved, either as a customer or as a business owner,  with products and a community that is truly life transforming? Think about it…what do you really want in your life? Are you ready to get it?

Here is a short video of our upcoming conference next month in Sydney Australia. Bob Proctor will be with us, as well as many others in the self development business. It is truly a trip of a lifetime and a life changing experience. If you are serious about changing your life, or in assisting others in doing so, contact us and we will get you additional information.

Consistency
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes

Consistency is an area of my life that I have an opportunity to improve. My involvement with MySpace is a case in point. It has been weeks, even months, since I have contributed anything here on this MySPace profile. I have popped in occasionally to check messages, but I haven't been very involved. I have good reasons for not spending time here, but the bottom line is I initially decided to create this profile for a reason, and that was to reach people and wake them up to the fact that there is a better way to life than one of mediocrity and quiet desperation.

When I can inspire one person to change their life for the better, then I have accomplished what I came here to do. I know that this profile has inspired people, many of you have wrote and told me and some of you have joined me in my business and journey to wake as many others up as possible that there is a better way of life. It is simply a choice, but you first have to be aware that there are options.

So I will continue to offer videos and articles that will reach people and wake them up to the idea that life will give you what you want…you just have to know how to ask.

I have moved the Wealth Theory Videos to our own webpage on our own server, it saves people the painful wait of the page loading with dozens of videos here on MySpace. I will continue the Wealth Theory series again and start posting new videos soon. I will also add and replace content on the profile page as I find it. Very little of the content on this profile is original. I have simply borrowed form others and followed their lead. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when there are others who have gone before you to attain the results that you want.

I will be more consistent in my participation and contribution. Consistency is something we all deserve to be good at, that includes me more so than most others. I am persistent however and I do commit when I make a decision. So expect to see more here in this blog in the near future.

Choosing Well
Current mood: thoughtful
Category: Life

Too many people think life has to be a struggle and because they think it, they live it. They are so programmed to look at things a certain way that they don't see the obvious in front of them. They are so focused on the meager penny that they are holding up in front of their eyeball, that they don't see the thousand dollar bill that is at arms length, and thiers for the taking, if they would just drop the penny and reach out and grab it. Is this you?

How do you change your paradigm? For me, it started with self development material and associating with people who were getting the kind of results that I wanted. This led me to realizing that I was the one who was in my own way and then showing me how to get out of my own way. It was a choice I made.

Life can be effortless if you just drop the baggage that you are carrying around and start seeing life differently and begin now to making choices that are going to really move you towards your goals.

Since I started this blog, I have received many e-mails from people who are not where they want to be in life. I was there once myself. Below is a poem I wrote about my experiance with letting go and making choices. After years of struggle, I finally chose to drop my limiting beliefs.

Since I now only work 20 hours a week, I have time to pursue my artistic interests and write sappy poems when the weather keeps me inside.

Are you ready to drop your baggage and choose well?

Choose Well

I started out my journey
A destination clear in mind
Adventure, success and excitement
Was what I was sure to find

My travels took me far and wide
The progress though sometimes slow
And the longer it took to move ahead
The larger my baggage would grow

With every challenge and obstacle
The harder I would struggle and strive
I came to expect the hardships
And my expectation diminished my drive

I then found myself at an impasse
Unable to move ahead
But it wasn't the path that blocked my way
It was my baggage that had stopped me dead

The road ahead was unobstructed
It was my beliefs that held me back
If I would only drop my baggage
I would find myself on track

I had to make a decision
How would I live my life?
As an easy going experience
Or one full of pain and strife?

So I repacked my belongings
And left behind what I didn't have to take
The choice was rather simple
Once I understood it was mine to make

I now move ahead unencumbered
It's not necessary to travel through Hell
For life is simply a choice my friend
Just let go and choose well

The first day of your best year ever!
Current mood: excited
Category: Life

Welcome to the first day of your best year ever!

Do you really want your best year ever? It all comes down to making a choice. If you are serious about making change in your life, here are 7 things that I have learned about achieving goals and making real change.

1. Think Real Big:

What is it, that when you think of it, it makes your palms sweat and your heart quicken? If you are not a little scared about your goals, then you are not on the path of changing your life.

"The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we hit it." ~Michelangelo

"A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for" ~John A. Shedd

2. Put it down on paper:

If you don't write down your goals, you tend to lose sight them in the distractions of daily life. Look at them daily (I read mine multiple times per day).

"Reduce your plan to writing... The moment you complete this, you will have definitely given concrete form to the intangible desire." ~Napoleon Hill

3. Is it what YOU really want?:

Many people set goals without really thinking about what they REALLY want. Don't set goals unless they are from the heart and are your true desire. Many people set goals based on someone else's expectation or on an abstract idea they have without really thinking it through. If you don't have a burning desire then you will only end up frustrated and thinking that you are not capable of achieving goals because you didn't have a big enough "why" to get you there. Have goals with passion! Unless you really want a 12,000 square foot home and all that goes with it (like live-in help and tremendous maintenance) don't make it a goal just because it would look cool and you think that is what rich people do.

"If you don't know what you want, you end up with a lot you don't" ~ Chuck Palahniuk

4. Be Grateful:

Show gratitude for all that you do have. Always know your successes in life and know what you have to be grateful for. There is always something to be thankful for no matter what situation you are in.

"Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns. I am thankful that thorns have roses." ~Alphonse Karr

5. Visualize and affirm positivaly:

Think of what do you want to move toward, not what you are running away from.

For Example:

"It is Dec. 31st 2007 and I have a net worth of a $500,000" don't affirm  "I want to get out of debt".

Play the movie in your head of achieving your goal (at least once a day) and then feel the feelings of having it now. This is critical and where many people miss on goal achieving. Know what it feels like to achieve your goal to the point that when you actually achieve it, it will be almost anticlimactic because you have been living with the feeling of having it for so long. Act as if it is already yours.

"Imagination is everything; it is the preview of life's forthcoming attractions." ~Albert Einstein

6. Have faith and believe:

This is another area where people tend to falter. Have faith in yourself and have belief in the achievement of your goal, belief in a power beyond yourself. Then just allow it to happen. You must eliminate doubt and believe. This really deserves more than a short paragraph because it is so important. I encourage you to do more study on faith in regards to goal achievement and then act based on what faith means to you.

"Faith is like a toothbrush. Every person should have one and use it regularly, but he shouldn't try to use someone else's."~J. G. Stipe

7. Persist without exception!:

Many people will put forth a great effort, even a heroic effort, and then, often with the approval and encouragement of others, they will quit pursuing their dream. They gave it a "good try" they did "all that could reasonably be done" so they feel justified in quitting. If you have set a big goal that is worthy of attaining, a goal that you have a burning desire for, a goal that consumes you, then persist without exception means just what it says "without exception". The only thing that stops you from reaching your goal is a lack of an idea. So when you feel that you have come to a dead end, the only thing that is stopping you is you, and having the right idea. Get unreasonable in pursuing your dreams.

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man."~George Bernard Shaw

Knowledge is NOT power….
Current mood: contemplative
Category: Life

Only through the application of knowledge do you gain power. Knowledge without application is of little worth. Unfortunately, there is all too often a huge gap between knowing and doing. I see this frequently in people who are pursuing self development. Reading books or watching movies is great, but if you aren't going to actually apply the principles to your life, why bother?

Changing your life isn't necessarily easy, It all depends on where you are on you own path. You can rest assured however, that if you keep doing what you have always been doing, then you will keep getting what you have always had. So what do you change? It all starts with changing the way that you think. I have listed a multitude of books and some movies to get started with. You will find a lot of information in those resources that will resonate with you and you will find some information that won't. Take what you like and leave the rest. Just because there is something in a particular book that you don't agree with, don't discount the whole book. From personal experience, I can tell you that if you are truly on a path of learning, your views and your perspective will change over time. That is what growth is all about.

Once you have studied, then apply to your life what you have learned through action! Test it out, give it time to manifest. Having a daily routine that gets you in to the habit of taking action is critical. If you are not applying the knowledge you have learned, you are not going to change anything. In the words of Charles Haanel, "Many men and women have found to their sorrow that it is easier to control a kingdom than it is to control themselves".

Learn and then take action on that knowledge.

"The vision must be followed by the venture.  It is not enough to stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs."  ~Vance Havner

Anything you want….
Current mood: excited
Category: Life

Telling people that they can have anything they want is often met with skepticism. They might accept the idea up to a certain point and believe that they have some control over their lives, but ultimately, they often don't think they can really get all they want out of life. Too often, they don't even know what it is that they want.

This MySpace profile is about waking people up to the fact that they can have whatever they desire….but it starts with the desire. If you don't have the longing to get more out of life, then just stop reading now and go visit somebody else's profile for your entertainment.  But, if you are serious about getting the results you want, in any area of your life, then you are in the right place.

It doesn't matter whether you are philosophically inclined, or scientifically inclined or religiously inclined. The information to change your life is available in the links and resources of this page. I will be sharing my views and experiences as well, but the information is not mine, I did not originate it, I am only passing it on because of the difference it has made in my life.

In the end, it is all up to you. There is nothing that I or anybody else can give you. You must find the knowledge along your own path. The power to change your life is inside you right now. All it takes is to change the way that you think. Once the paradigm of your world has shifted, you will begin to see results in your life that will amaze you.

I will be sharing the sources of knowledge that I have found and I will be writing of the principles that have changed my life forever.

The movie "The Secret" is a good place to start, here is a preview...
